Bill Cornett, age 95, of Louisville, passed on June 11, 2017.

He retired after 30 years of service in the US Navy, was a life-long Democrat, an avid UofL fan and enjoyed golfing and playing cards with family and friends.

Bill was born on Mace's Creek in eastern Kentucky. He joined the US Navy in 1941 and served on many ships including the USS Memphis, the USS Cape Esperance, the USS Francis Marion and the USS Mt. Rushmore. He served through WWII , the Korean War and Vietnam War., retiring after...

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Arizona (nee Branson) Cornett; his wife, Joyce, whom he shared his life with for 71 years; his siblings, Roger, June, Wallace "Blue", George and Eli.

Bill is survived by his children, Pam Phelps (John), Terry Cornett (Debbie Mynhier) and Donna Phillips (Paul); grandchildren, Karen (Garry) Reuter, David (Beth) Phelps , Bill (Kristy) Phelps and Nick Phelps; great-grandchildren, John Murray Phelps, Jack Phelps, Kate Reuter, Sean Reuter, and Addie Phelps; siblings, Frank Cornett, Marlene Wells, Herschel Cornett, and Loretta Gault.

A celebration of Bill's life will be held at 2 pm, Monday, June 19, 2017 at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven, 4400 Bardstown Road, with entombment at Resthaven Memorial Park. Family and friends are welcome to visit an hour before service.
